Golden State Lumber

Golden State Lumber

For this week’s #MemberMonday, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Kevin Matteri, the Vice President of Operations for #GoldenStateLumber. They are located at 1080 Burnett Avenue in Concord. You can visit their website at Golden State Lumber - Concord or call them at 925-326-2700. This month they are celebrating their two year anniversary in Concord. The Concord facility is a state-of-the-art design showroom, hardware store, and indoor lumber yard. I was lucky enough to get a full tour of the grounds and was very impressed.

Each year in May #GSL has their annual #ContractorDays where they invite #vendors and #productreps to come enjoy a BBQ, raffles, giveaways and discounted tools. It’s a way to bring together those that can benefit from having relationships with one another. It’s open to the public and it’s becoming quite the popular event. Golden State Lumber is a big supporter of the local communities and believes joining the #Chamber helps them stay connected, informed and involved in the #community.

Golden State Lumber is a 3rd generation company that was established back in 1954. They have many locations throughout the #BayArea as well as some out-of-state locations. Their company motto is You succeed, We succeed and they use this motto for everyone including #customers, #employees, and #vendors. Their staff of 55 employees pride themselves on being industry experts in order to help educate their customers and help give them the best possible outcome for their particular project.

Kevin is originally from #Petaluma, as are the owners of Golden State Lumber. Kevin had gone away to #SanDiego for school and found that he really loved the beach life and wanted to settle there after college. He settled in San Diego for some time but really missed his family back in the Bay Area (parents, three brothers and one sister). He then decided go to Texas to explore things and see what he missed more; his family and life in the Bay Area or his new life and love of San Diego.

While living in Texas, Kevin received a call from a friend who told him about the opportunities with Golden State Lumber. After researching the company, coupled with his desire to head back to the Bay Area, he agreed to meet with the owner of Golden State Lumber who flew out to Texas to interview him. And as they say, the rest is history.

Kevin started his career with Golden State Lumber back in 2002. He began working in the yard helping customers, then moved onto counter sales, the hardware store,  outside sales and finally to his current role VP of operations. This has allowed Kevin to develop and refine his ability to work with all different kinds of people. Whether it’s skill level, education level, or cultural background, Kevin can adapt to the needs of his customers. He has a calm demeanor which he says really helps him in his role at Golden State Lumber. He spent the better part of 15 years commuting to Newark before he was able to help find the location and open the new Concord store. Kevin is very happy with his 2.5 mile commute. He has more time to be with his son and daughter and really enjoy all their sporting events.

When Kevin has time he not only enjoys watching his children play sports but he has been known to engage in some 3 on 3 or 5 on 5 basketball games in the local leagues. One of his most memorable concerts was MC Hammer. He loves Sushi and his first album ever was either Genesis’, We Can't Dance or Prince’s, Diamonds & Pearls.

It was a pleasure to sit down with you Kevin and get to know more about you and Golden State Lumber. Thanks for sharing your time and stories with me.
