SUMMARY:One City\, One Book: Pleasant Hill
DESCRIPTION:The Pleasant Hill Education Initiative is launching a citywide read in October spear-headed by the Pleasant Hill Library.\n\n \n\nThis year\, we are choosing a book for all ages tied to innovation that will be kicked off at our Annual Night of 1\,000 Inventions. Our pick is "The Invention of Hugo Cabret\," a Caldecott-award winning story by Brian Selznick about an orphaned boy living in a Paris train station\, who teams up with a bookish girl to unravel the mystery of a mechanical man and a hidden message from his father. \n\n\n\nThroughout the month\, the library and other community partners will host events related to the story\, including Maker Mondays at the library throughout October.\n\n\n\nThe Friends of the Library\, in partnership with Rotary and other local funders\, are helping to purchase hundreds of copies to lend at the library and give away to students in Pleasant Hill public schools. The library is also seeking support from the Chamber of Commerce and local businesses to sponsor this community-wide event. Copies of Hugo would include a book plate\, acknowledging all generous contributors with the logo of their business or organization.
